“I’ve welcomed back some of our crowd favorites, including Monica Bill Barnes, and invited some new chorographers who will begin to define the next 10 years of Trolley,” explained Jean Isaacs, the creative genius behind this much-anticipated San Diego tradition. In 10 years, Trolley Dances has presented the work of nearly 30 choreographers and featured 450 dancers.
In addition to new works set on the company and community dancers by Jean, Trolley 08 will feature choreography by longtime SDDT veteran Terry Wilson, NY favorite Monica Bill Barnes, Anthony Rodriguez, a local master teaching artist and hip-hop performer and Katie Stevinson-Nollet of Full Force Dance Theatre, Hartford, CT.
Auditions for additional dancers to participate in Trolley 08 will take place Sunday, July 27, 12 noon at Dance Place San Diego, NTC Promenade.
Trolley Dances began in 1999 with a unique and distinctly urban concept: Bring dance to the people using public transportation and introduce people to new neighborhoods and places. The successful model is also presented in San Francisco. Over the years, performances have taken place along Trolley lines in Downtown, Old Town, Mission Valley, Grantville/SDSU, Euclid Avenue and last year at Smart Corner, Downtown.
Trolley Dances realizes a unique partnership with the Metropolitan Transit System and San Diego Dance Theater who annually join forces creating what San Diego Magazine called “Best Annual Art Event.”
